On Friday 8th February a member from the House of Lords came to visit our school. Lord Woolmer’ visit began at 10:30 with an audience with pupils and the staff members. Lord Woolmer informed the pupils about his role as a lord, the political process of becoming a lord and the role of members of the House of Lords.  He also engaged in a question and answer session which the students greatly enjoyed. There were also photographers and reporters from the local press present who took pictures of this special event. All pictures will remain strictly confidential and are for school purposes only not for the public eye. Overall the visit was a huge success with positive feedback received from the pupils, ‘I found the talk interesting and didn’t know anything about the HOL before,’ stated one Yr 9 pupil.

On 31st January, Ms Afzal organized an internal charity event for the students and staff to raise money for both a Muslim and a non-Muslim charity, Muslim Hands  and Children in Crisis. Islam encourages helping people of all faiths. The students had to design their own products as part of a Halqa project studying Sadaqah which were sold to raise charity. There were different types of stalls selling stationary, frames, cup cakes, key rings, book marks, t shirts, mirrors, magnets and many more things. There were also different activities for the students to participate in such as a treasure hunt and guess the sweets in the jar. Overall this event was a great success and the staff and students had a wonderful time.

We managed to raise a fantastic £812. 95.

Jazaka…… hu khaira to Miss Afzal and all the students who helped make this event such a success.
