The History of Zakaria Muslim Girls' High School

Zakaria Muslim Girls' High school is one of three Muslim high schools in the Kirklees area. It is an independently financed secondary school for girls aged 11 to 16.

Founded in 1982, Zakaria School was one of the first independant Islamic schools to be established in the UK. In response to an increasing awareness amongst parents that the needs of Muslim children were not being catered to in state schools. In the beginning there were only a handful of students being schooled in a terraced house, which served as a school during the day and a maddressah in the evening. It began with a blessed duaa from the renowned Hazrat Sheikh Moulana Zakaria Sahib (RA) after whom the school is named.
